Winter Escape 2012: Canberra, Capital City of Australia

It was only a three hour drive to Canberra from Sydney. We passed by a few wineries on the way. This being the peak of summer time, the landscape was brown everywhere.

On arrival in Canberra we meandered our way towards Parliament building passing the many embassies along the way. It was hot and humid and hence it was a slow walk. We had to climb a gradual incline to get to the entrance of the Parliament building. It is an impressive new structure and nothing like the traditional looking Parliament buildings in other countries. The picture on the left illustrates this modern structure. While inside, we toured the respective chambers of the Senate and the Legislative house.

After having lunch at the cafe inside Parliament building, we strolled through the main streets to find our way back to our accommodation. Canberra is a typical government town with its many government office buildings around the city. We spent one night in Canberra. The next day we headed for Melbourne.
