Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam

Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam is a fictional collection of short stories. Through the characters of Fritz, Sri, Chen and Ming the reader discovers the trials, tribulations and joys of studying through medical school. Lam, very cleverly, weaves their personal relationships with their struggles through medical school and then proceeds to narrate how these four characters perform during their careers as medical doctors in emergency rooms and evac missions that includes coping and living with terrifying new viruses. The reader witnesses the patient/doctor relationships and is given some access to the patients’ personal life stories.

Throughout the stories, the reader is confronted with moral dilemmas and social issues that are left for the reader to resolve or contemplate further. Lam introduces the reader to a realistic portrait of today’s medical profession. It is an absorbing and riveting collection of stories that would make the reader continually turn the pages in anticipation of further intrigue.

The Movie Network and Movie Central have announced that they've acquired a forthcoming television series based on Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures by Toronto writer Vincent Lam.

The series will be called Bloodletting and it will premiere on the networks (The Movie Network in the east and Movie Central in the west) in early 2010.
