This week, we went on a spontaneous short trip to Whistler; just one of the perks of being in retirement. We are having a brilliantly sun shining start to the fall season. Whistler is one of the major venues for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
The drive up to Whistler was dramatic with beautiful views of the mountainscapes dropping into the ocean waters and as we came closer to Whistler we were treated to more breathtaking mountainscapes.

There are many hiking trails around the lakes at the base of the Blackcomb and Whistler mountains with more trails at the peaks of these mountains. We took the cable car ride to the top of Whistler and did some very short alpine hikes while there and then ventured on the newly opened peak2peak cable car crossing over to Blackcomb Mountain. It was an awesome ride with splendid views of the glaciers in the distance and bears down below picking berries for their winter hibernation. While at Blackcomb we once again did a very short alpine hike. Next time we plan on a more organized trip with more days that would include all day hikes.
